On Wednesday, May 19th, Oyster Bay’s varsity softball team had their last home game against West Hempstead. After starting their season 0-9, they were searching for a senior day win. The team was able to come out on top against West Hempstead, defeating them 9-5.

The score remained close throughout the entire game. After West Hempstead scored 1 run in the top of the first inning, Oyster Bay came back to score 3 runs in each of the following 3 innings. West Hempstead was able to keep Oyster Bay scoreless the rest of the game, but Oyster Bay defeated West Hempstead 9-5.

The win marked not only the last home game of the season, but also senior day for two athletes, Skylar McEvoy and Emma Guarini.

Both seniors were essential to the team's win. Skylar McEvoy pitched a complete game, striking out 15 batters. She not only helped on the mound but at the plate as well. McEvoy went 2-for-3 on Wednesday, batting in 2 of the 9 RBIs.

Senior Emma Guarini also had a solid game. Guarini played a complete game at 2nd base, making 0 errors. At the plate, Guarini batted in 2 runs.

Guarini shared, “It felt so amazing to win. Not just because it was our first game that we’ve won this season, but also because it was our senior game, and the win just made that day so much more special.”

The team felt that their energy was at its highest peak of the season.

Junior Marissa Iemmiti said, “It felt very good to win, and our energy was at its highest. It felt different from other games because of senior day, and we were all in good moods and excited for the team and our seniors.”

Skylar McEvoy added, “I feel like our energy was different. Even when we were up by 3, it still wasn’t enough, and we all wanted more. We all played our hearts out, and it was a great senior day!”

Not only did the two seniors have a great game, but the whole team contributed to the team's win against West Hempstead.

Guarini said, “Overall, everyone on the team did an amazing job in their designated role, and I am beyond proud to be a part of this team.”

Varsity softball coach Ms. Wink said, “I am looking forward to how the varsity softball team continues to progress. If the goal is centered around growth, the rest falls into play. ”

This varsity team is looking for a few more wins in their last three games of the season. With playoffs approaching, this team will not stop practicing, and they remain eager to show what they’re capable of.
