Oyster Bay High School has a rising star in the sport of Wrestling. Keith Cassar, an eleventh grader at OBHS, has recently become the first Oyster Bay wrestler to make it to All-State.

In order to accomplish this achievement, one must first win the sectional tournament as well as the county tournament. Leading up to Keith’s victory, he practiced every day after school with his team, and he would often stay later to get in extra practice.
Keith began wrestling in 7th grade and has continued with the sport ever since. In a recent interview, he revealed, “I love the sport, and I admire the dedication that it takes to find success in it.” Keith continued on to reveal that one of the many reasons he enjoys it is because of the “competitive aspect of wrestling.”
Keith began his involvement in wrestling because of his uncle, who had always been a wrestler, and his dad, who encouraged him to try the sport back in 7th grade. Keith explained that he loved watching his uncle wrestle and he knew that he wanted to gain the satisfaction of winning on the mat.
When Keith was asked what helped contribute to his success, he told us that the two main factors that pushed him were the support from his family and coaches, and his drive to become the best. When asked how he thinks his achievement will impact his future, Keith told us, “I think this win will help me obtain my goal, which is to become a state champion.”
Keith is planning to further pursue wrestling once he heads off to college. On behalf of The Harbor Voice staff, we would like to congratulate Keith on his win and wish him all the best in his future wrestling endeavors.
