More than half way through the season, the Lady Baymen are proving to be great competitors. The girls are led by their new coach, Mrs. Pape, and the team continues their nearly undefeated season, hoping to add to their total of seven wins.

The JV roster includes Taylor Hall, Angelina Pavlovic, Kaitlyn Aasheim, Marissa Iemmiti, Jackie Kieran, Faith Lingen, Sofia Gagliardi, Olivia Milana, Kate Webster, Katherine Jennette, Aurora Aschettino, Ryleigh Greene, and Bella Negron.
Sophomore Taylor Hall recently spoke about the team’s success. “We keep a positive attitude during practices and games. We listen to our coach and really consider everything she says to us. We work really hard, and it has definitely paid off so far!”
The athletes have developed a strong rapport and have become closer off the court, which has aided in their successful season.

Coach Pape also contributes greatly to the team’s success thus far. She has helped mold the girls into stronger players by being an encouraging leader while remaining humble about her coaching expertise.
“The team is successful all on their own. I just guide them and assist where they need me. They are the true talent. Each player brings something different to the team. But everyone works hard and gives one hundred percent,” Pape states.
Although the teammates are close, and they’re lead by a talented coach, both Taylor Hall and Coach Pape believe communication is an area where the girls still have room to grow.

“We need to work on communicating. It’s mostly small errors. We just need to clean up on the court,” Hall admits.
Coach Pape adds, “One thing we need to work on is communicating more effectively on the court. Sometimes we talk, sometimes we don’t. We need to be more consistent so that the other parts of the game flow better.”
Communication plays a key role in any team sport. Knowing who is going for the ball, or where others are on the court is crucial.

Freshman Olivia Milana believes the team should focus on the smaller details. “Honestly, we can still work on a lot of skills.” All sports rely on athletes mastering basic skills, which leads teams to victory. Milana shares that mastering basic volleyball skills will result in even greater success for the team.

The JV Volleyball team can attribute its success to many factors, but the girls’ bond off the court certainly has one of the greatest impacts. The countless hang out sessions before practice, the endless fun at pasta parties, and most importantly, their strong relationship with their coach, are the main catalysts for the team’s successful season.
