The boys winter track team ran at their Conference Championship meet on January 29th, claiming sixth place with 41 points.
There were many impressive individual performances from boys on the Oyster Bay team, including several runners who were in the top three, earning them the all-conference title. Riley Keffer took third in the 1000 meters, and Nick Tardugno took third in the 1600 meters and second in the 3200 meters.
Two relay teams also received all-conference, including the 4x200 relay, run by Robert Zavala, Antony Hercules Reyes, Connor Wick, and Nathaniel Yee, who took third place, and the 4x800 relay, run by Daniel Grassie, Riley Keffer, Izzy Silver, and Nick Tardugno, who took second place.
Even if runners didn’t get all-conference, they were still able to score points by placing top six in their race. Overall, there were seven scorers, including three relays, that earned important points for their team. These runners included Brandon Decarolis in the 55 meter hurdles, Izzy Silver in the 600 meters, and Justin Gulbin, Will Capone, David Cohen, and Brandon Decarolis who all ran in the 4x400 relay.
There were also several personal records, such as Antony Hercules Reyes in the long jump, Robert Zavala in the 300 meters, John Cuddy in the 55 meters, Nathaniel Yee in the 600 meters, and Aiden Russo in shotput.
Even though they did not win, the boys track team still performed well. “Overall, I was very happy about the conference and county meets,” said Coach Weber, the boys winter track coach. “I truly believe that we can win conferences next year. This year really laid the foundation for the 2020-2021 season.”
