By Greta Flanagan

Milky Chance

Milky Chance is by no means a new band, having released their first album, Sadnecessary, in 2014. They brought a new voice to the alternative rock genre and eventually set their career into motion with the eleventh, and most well-known, song on this album, “Stolen Dance,” which has over 550 million downloads on Spotify. While many people may know of that particular song, the general population doesn’t quite know who wrote it. However, Milky Chance recently released a new album in November 2019 called Mind The Moon, which contains beautifully crafted songs like “Oh Mama,” and “Right From Here.” These songs have incredibly unique tunes and rhythms, and despite being unknown to many people, they will likely become the next big hit like “Stolen Dance,” which sets the album’s success into motion.

Dodie
Dodie is an English songwriter and singer who mainly writes indie pop. Her songs are themed by emotional and personal lyrics partnered with light melodies. Dodie released a new album titled Human in January of 2019, which contains her fifth most popular song, “Monster.” Dodie’s music is generally calming and perfect for simply unwinding and relaxing. However, Human is particularly noteworthy for her song “She,” her current hit, which is about Dodie’s love for another woman. The song makes definite strides towards the acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community. Overall, Dodie’s music is the perfect choice if you plan to pop your earbuds in and just relax.

Sub Urban

Sub Urban, or Danny Maisonneuve, is a nineteen-year-old American singer and songwriter who is most famous for his single “Cradles,” which garnered popularity on Youtube and Tiktok. Although “Cradles” has over 88 million downloads on Spotify, his two other songs, which also fit the rock-influenced-electronic style of “Cradles,”  have gone generally unnoticed. Particularly notable is his 2019 single “Isolate,” which was released in August of 2019. “Isolate,” like his other songs, has a nightmare-esque aesthetic and holds a personal meaning for Maisonneuve. However, unlike “Cradles,” “Isolate,” is far more upbeat and faster. If you’ve heard of “Cradles,” either from Tiktok or Youtube, you’re guaranteed to enjoy Sub Urban’s other songs.
