In January of 2021, Olivia Rodrigo released her first hit single, “Drivers License,” before quickly rising to fame. The song broke the record for most streams in a single day on Spotify. Roderigo followed this hit with more popular singles, including “Deja Vu” and “Good 4 U.”

After quick success, Rodrigo released her first album, entitled “Sour,” on May 21st. The album contains 11 songs, including her three singles. Rodrigo’s hit song “Good 4 U” has already reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, followed by “Drivers License” and “Deja Vu.”

Her music includes a mixture of pop and pop-rock. Rodrigo, influenced by Taylor Swift, created both upbeat and slow-tempo music in her album, from “Hope Ur Ok” to “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back.” Alongside her three singles, “Happier” and “Traitor” have also become fan favorites.

On social media, Rodrigo recently shared, “I love the songwriting and the lyricism and the melodies of folk music. I love the tonality of alt-rock. Obviously, I'm obsessed with pop and pop artists. So I'm going to try and take all of my sort of influences ... and make something that I like.”

Considering Rodrigo is only 18 years old, many people were not expecting such maturity in her songs or in her voice. She usually writes about past breakups, conveying to the world what she has gone through and how she feels. Through her honest lyrics, she gives teenagers authentic music that they find relatable.

Rodrigo’s music is impacting teenagers all over the world. Her first album has already broken records set by artists such as Ariana Grande. This album has ensured a bright future for Olivia Rodrigo, making her one of the most popular artists at this time.
