As another school year began, we all got to enjoy the yearly tradition of Spirit Week in Oyster Bay High School, a week when students get to express their school spirit through a variety of themed days. This year’s days included: Jersey Day, Patriotic Day, Decade Day, Purple-Gold Day and, finally, Class Spirit Day!

The highlight of the week doesn’t come until Friday, when the school hosts its annual pep rally. This is truly the day that captures the excitement of all Oyster Bay students (probably because of the shortened periods, but that’s beside the point). We get to meet all of our fall sport teams and watch the OB cheerleaders do what they do best: cheer! And of course, witness the infamous lip-sync competition among grades 9-12. Like years prior, students found new ways to combine their themes (music genres) with creative dance routines. Like most years, the seniors managed to take home first place with their innovative dance involving the theme of pop music. The juniors came in second place, followed by the freshmen in third, and the sophomores in fourth.
When asked about her experience during Spirit Week, senior Nicole Ojeda said, "Being part of the homecoming committee was an amazing experience. It was great seeing all of our peers working together one last time before graduation. The best part of it all was creating the lip-sync dance. After years of keeping our losing streak, this year's lip-sync came in first place. Spirit Week of 2016 was definitely a memorable one."
Overall, this was a lively and memorable Spirit Week. It will be difficult to imagine what ideas could possibly top the creative ones we observed this September!
