Oyster Bay High School welcomes Mr. Kevin Leach, a former science teacher, as the new Assistant Principal for grades 10-12.
Mr. Leach recently shared that his love of earth science began in high school. After tutoring a fellow student, he realized he could have an impact on a peer. The teaching profession sparked his interest after this experience. Mr. Leach went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Earth and Space Science and a Master of Arts in Science Education from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Mr. Leach previously worked in the Uniondale School District, where he taught high school earth science for the past eight years. As a teacher, he was passionate about working with students in this subject.
In addition to teaching, he worked in administrative roles; he served as the principal of the district’s summer school program and oversaw a new teacher mentor program. “Administration is a great way to know the greater student body and create even more positive changes in school,” Mr. Leach shared.
Mr. Leach felt that Oyster Bay High School, “a smaller school with extremely dedicated students who truly care about their education and school spirit,” would be the ideal fit. He is excited to be a part of a positive learning environment and make a substantial impact on students within the Oyster Bay community.
Among Mr. Leach’s many hobbies, he enjoys photography, scuba diving, traveling and spending time with his growing family. He and his wife have a two-year-old son, and they are expecting a baby next year. His family also adopted a puppy in March.
Mr. Leach “absolutely loves his experience at Oyster Bay so far,” and we are happy to welcome him as our new assistant principal!
