This fall, Oyster Bay High School welcomed a new Social Studies teacher, Mr. Towers. Mr. Towers looks forward to getting to know all of the students and staff, and he says that he “can already tell what a great school this is.”

After graduating from college, Mr. Towers taught for four years upstate in Dover Plains, NY. He then moved to Long Island and began working at Cold Spring Harbor High School, where he worked for the next nine years prior to coming to Oyster Bay.

Mr. Towers says he was inspired to be a teacher because he has “always enjoyed school.” He adds, “I had a positive experience during my days as a student, and I always felt that teaching would be a good fit for me.”

Growing up, his parents taught him the importance of helping others. When choosing a career path, Mr. Towers combined his love for school and his goal of helping others succeed, leading him to becoming an educator.

Mr. Towers has also been involved in sports from a very young age, and he played soccer in college, where he really enjoyed being part of a team. Recently, Mr. Towers’ favorite pastime is playing golf: “It's a great challenge, and you get to spend time outside with your friends. It's an awesome sport. I love it.”

In addition to sports, Mr. Towers has a passion for biology. In college, he considered switching his major to physical therapy/training, and he even thought about becoming a part of the medical staff for a professional sports team!

Many of the teachers and students are still navigating the new world of virtual and hybrid learning. A goal that Mr. Towers has this year is to become more proficient in this area. “I want to make sure that all my students receive a great education, whether they are in class or on the computer.”

We are very excited to have Mr. Towers join our district, and we are sure that he will bring positive energy and a great education to the students in eighth grade social studies!
