Are you looking for a fun time for the family at a restaurant with live music and reasonable prices located nearby? The Homestead, located at 107 South Street, in downtown Oyster Bay, is be a fabulous choice. On its website, The Homestead is quite accurately described as a restaurant that serves “familiar American Pub Grub.” The chefs prepare “home-style” type meals and the restaurant does “serve guests like family.” The Homestead boasts a welcoming atmosphere and has live music for its guests’ enjoyment on designated nights. Plenty of Oyster Bay residents dine at the restaurant, so chances are high that you will run into a friend or two.
Upon arrival, you can find parking on South Street or in the large parking lot behind the restaurant. Seating reservations are taken, and it is strongly recommended that you make a reservation, especially on nights when there is live music, as tables fill quickly.
When you enter the restaurant, you are promptly greeted by the hostess, who will be eager to get you settled at your table. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive to all your dining needs. The Homestead menu has everything you could want. There are a variety of appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. Making your selection for your dinner will not be easy. My family has been to The Homestead many times and tried a variety of their dishes; it is impossible to go wrong. Some favorites are the French Onion Soup Au Gratin and the Homestead Salad, which has a fresh mix of greens with fresh mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes, grape tomatoes, artichoke hearts, olives, roasted red peppers, and gorgonzola topped with a balsamic dressing. You would also do well to try the juicy Texas Burger as an entrée, which is topped with pepper jack cheese, apple seed bacon, jalapeños, fried onion crisps, and chipotle barbecue sauce. Other family favorites are the homemade meatloaf and the chicken schnitzel.
On certain nights, The Homestead has live entertainment. During the summer months, the restaurant sets up tables on an outdoor patio, located at the rear of the restaurant., where the band will perform. Last summer, a notable standout in the entertainment lineup was Dunster Road, who performed to a standing-room only crowd. The band played a medley of favorites including several Beatles songs, to the delight of the audience. Many of the patrons rose from their tables to dance along as the band played.
If you have never been to The Homestead, be sure to give it a try soon; you will not be disappointed.
