With the fall season coming to an end, and winter waiting with baited breath, a recap of fall’s most prominent trends is well deserved. Sporting styles that we viewed as the latest looks, our fall fashion this season was truthfully a blast from the past. Rocking the 90’s gift of the choker, various 60’s leather jacket trends, and ripped denim stemming from the rockers of the 80’s, we might just be modern day copycats. This, however, is the cycle of fashion. So keep those beaded headbands and layered tank tops from your childhood because as out of date as they may seem at the moment, you never know when they may be in style again.
Switching back to present-day, here are six outfits combining the best fall fashion looks of 2016. These are the modern trendsetters, a blend of the decades.

1. Ripped Denim, Heeled Booties and High Necks

This outfit combines the key basics of this season into one. Starting with the eye catcher of the outfit—the shoes. Having a go-to heeled bootie to complete a look is necessary. The cheetah is also a great statement making a comeback, adding a little extra pop to any outfit. Distressed denim is next on the list. Varying from skinny jeans to even jackets, ripped denim is all the rage.
Although comments from adults stating, “Hope you got a discount on that,” or “Looks like the moths got at your closet again” are inevitable, the trend is worth it. Truthfully, without the addition of ripped denim, classic and plain jeans would have probably been out of style by now.
Can’t forget about the belt! Although belts are not the accessory of choice for many, a western style black belt is the one exception. Synching at the waist is often essential for many of today’s baggy jeans such as the mom or boyfriend, this belt is a lifesaver with benefits.
What type of shirt is that you may ask? No it is not a turtleneck. No it is not a long sleeve tee. It is a mix between the two, known as a mock neck. Although turtlenecks are one of winter’s best pieces, warm and fashionable, they can often be too heavy for many of fall’s timid climates. This is where the mock neck comes into play. Not too heavy, not too light, it is perfect for the season.
At last the leather jacket. Not your average black leather, a light brown blending perfectly with the colors of fall ties the entire look together, lightening it and complementing the brown in the cheetah.

2. Joggers and a Graphic Tee

Comfy at times can be the new chic. This is one of those times. Wearing joggers, a tee shirt and a basic pair of sneakers, you can look put together while still being casual. Adding a leather jacket helps give an edge to the look; unfortunately, it is too cold for just a tee shirt in New York’s fall. A graphic tee helps bring some of rock’s greatest legends back into our lives. This Led Zeppelin band tee from Brandy Melville is one example of many being sold at trending clothing stores such as Urban Outfitters and Topshop. If you don’t have a pair of Adidas superstars by now, you’re out of the loop. The brand has made a huge comeback this fall season, from shoes to jackets to dresses, you are sure to see their logo anywhere. Ending with the joggers, no pair of pants could be more comfortable. The muted pink adds a touch of color to this otherwise basic outfit, tying the look together.

3. Simple Slip Dress and Classy Over the Knee

Going for a more dressed up outfit, over the knee boots fashionably keep you warm while sporting a short dress or skirt. The suede, high-boot look, originally stemming from designer Stewart Weitzman, has now been adopted by more affordable brands from Steve Madden to forever 21. Chunky sweaters add to the simplicity and comfort of this outfit, ironic adjectives to describe the characteristics normally associated with “dressing up.” Alas! A 90’s trend is back! Slip dresses are alive and well, and when paired with a white or band tee underneath, a fall staple. A matching choker completes this look giving a modern twist on the 90’s rage.

4. Denim on Denim

Many may be scared of denim on denim, but with the current trending nature of this fabric, you could basically wear denim in any fashion and still look good. Mom jeans have made a comeback, and hopefully they are here to stay! Comfortable, high wasted and easy to pair with any outfit, this 80’s look is now made designer with styles such as patched and distressed denim. Denim Jackets stemming from the rebels of the past—the cowboys and rockers—have been flying under the radar as an off-duty look for years, continuing to present day. Adding to this street vibe, a choker and Adidas Stan Smith sneakers give the outfit the finishing touches it needs.

5. Faux Fur Turned Casual

Not only is faux fur stylish and classy, it’s warm. Fall in New York can get really cold, and fur is perfect for one of those days. Many save these staple pieces for events or nights out, generalizing them as too fancy for day-to-day wear, but when paired with the right pieces, they totally work! Starting with the jeans, distressed denim makes another appearance. Opting for black this time instead of blue, this Urban Outfitters pickup tones down the high-end look of the jacket, making it appear more casual. I next layered a basic black and white striped tee under the jacket, a basic anyone should, or needs to, have in his or her closet. Black Chelsea boots were a perfect option for an average yet sophisticated shoe, which came into the fashion world last fall. Toping everything off is a silver choker, balancing the basics of the outfit with the snazzy impression of the coat.

6.Boyfriend Jeans and The Bomber

Hey the 80’s called and they want to know if they can have their bomber jackets back? Sorry, no, we’re keeping them. First created during World War I for a military pilot’s warmth, they have now transformed into a modern day jacket version of the little black dress: stylish, functional and timeless. Perfect for fall’s crisp days and easy to throw over any outfit, bomber jackets are not going anywhere. The next eye catcher: boyfriend jeans. Baggy, high-wasted, distressed, and very comfortable, one would wonder why skinny jeans are even still in style?
A Madewell graphic tee is tucked into the jeans, tied together with the same Midwestern belt from outfit number one. The belt adds to the black detail of this outfit, also giving some shape to the bulky boyfriend jeans by synching at the waist. Finishing off with a black choker and some platform black suede sneakers, this fall look is ready for the catwalk of the school’s halls.
